Granny Square a Week-Week Seventeen

This is my birthday week! Hurray! On April 24th, I was the big 3-8. In honor I chose this pattern since it is named after one of my most favorite things:

Kitten's Claw by Margaret MacInnis

Cats!

This square seems complicated but it is pretty easy if you follow the pattern carefully. And it does work up pretty quick. And I advise you to not put it down and come back, try to do it all in one sitting.

My notes:
On round 3, the total number of stitches you should have on one side is 11.
Oh round 4, the total number of stitches you should have on one side is 15.
On round 5, you will make 3 single crochets in the corners.

I stopped after round 5 since it was about the size I needed.

Here they are: my first one looks wonky, I think because I put it down and came back to it (which is why I advise to do it all in one shot!). The second is in my favorite color combination outside of red and turquoise, light pink and aqua.

Granny Square a Week-Week Sixteen

This week the number randomizer shot out #29 and with that gave me this pattern.

Very easy and quick to work up. Only adjustments I made were to the number of rounds I worked-I only did in total 7 rounds instead of the total number of rounds, which makes it a great smaller square

Granny Square a Week-Week Fifteen

This week I have decided to do 2 different squares. The first is in my main colors and it is a wee bit complicated, but not terribly so.

Tulip Discloth by Doni Speigle

It is technically a pattern for a dishcloth but can be adapted to our use. It comes out quite pretty. I had to add a third color since it was not conducive to my 2 color scheme.

There were no adjustments. Just follow the pattern very carefully since there are a lot of intricacies:

The second pattern isn't so much the pattern of the main square, but rather the addition to it. It is a cute little fox face! I just worked up a solid granny square underneath (I made a quick blog for a solid Granny Square Pattern in case anyone has need. It is basic and can be found anywhere, but I figure I would include it for quick reference) and made the face to attach. Now the only issue: the pattern is in German and I don't speak or read a lick! Thankfully there was a chart accompanying this and since charts are universal, it is easy to read.

Waldtier-Granny-Squares(Forest Animals Granny Squares) by Halitha

She also has a deer and a little sparrow. In case anyone wants to tackle this, I translated the stitches from German and added the chart symbol next to it:

And the final adorable product!

Granny Square a Week-Week Fourteen

This week's square is a little quirky. It is the Radioactive Warning Symbol! I made this for my sweetie: it reminded me of his most favorite video game, Fallout. But it is named after Madame Curie, which is fantastic in itself (although sad, knowing her fate from working with radioactive materials)

Madame Curie Radioactive Afghan Block By Margaret MacInnis and Rebecca Bisbing

Another Ravelry download. Again, well worth a membership! So much valuable information on that site.

It says it is not as easy as it looks but I have not found this to be true. As long as you follow the pattern carefully-especially carrying the secondary color yarn along with your stitches- it works up easily and you will be able to warn others of your radioactivity in no time ;)

I changed only one thing: the full pattern is for a 9 inch block, but I worked it up only until Round 7 which gave me a (roughly) 7 inch block.

This was done with Caron's Simply Soft in Sage and Vanna's Choice in Goldfish

This is what the back should look like if you carried the yarn correctly. You should not see any long strands or strings hanging and you should only have 4 loose ends to tie in.

Until Next Week!
